New species of wild bee discovered in Culuccia It is called Andrena culucciae and is a new species of wild bee, discovered on the island of Culuccia by entomologists from Roma Tre University with the support of the Culuccia Nature Observatory, directed by Sabrina Rossi. Matteo Annessi, author of the research and PhD student in Biodiversity and Ecosystem Management at this university, has published an article in the Journal of Hymenoptera Research, the premier scientific journal in the field, supported by the International Society of Hymenopterists, on September 19. Specimens of Andrena culucciae have been observed in the vegetation of the coastal dunes and in more inland areas of the island. Its varied diet makes this pollinating insect another valuable piece in the extraordinary biodiversity of Culuccia.
